A rescued cat finds solace in her tiny doll bed each night, bringing comfort and warmth to her grateful heart.

When she was around 3 years old, Sophie the cat was rescued from a hoarding situation, where she and a ton of other animals were all stacked in cages on top of each other. She was taken in by the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL), and soon adopted into her new family.

Sophie is an incredibly sweet and loving cat, and just wants to be around her parents as much as she possibly can. For the first few nights after she was adopted, whenever her parents would head off to bed, she would head up to the top of their dresser and sleep there the entire night. It’s as if she wanted to be high enough to watch her parents, and to make sure she knew exactly when it was time to get up again.

“I tried to see if she would sleep in our bed but she insisted on always sleeping on the dresser,” Christiana Viscusi, Sophie’s mom, told The Dodo. “So after a few nights I cleared off the dresser and put her bed there. She’s been going up to her bed when we go to bed ever since.”

Sophie’s bed is a miniature version of a human bed, and she even has her own rotating sets of sheets and comforters. Every night, her mom gets her all cozy and tucked into bed, and that’s where she stays the entire night.

“She sleeps there the entire night all tucked in,” Viscusi said. “She gets up only once around 3 a.m. for a snack, then heads back up to her bed until my alarm goes off in the morning.”

Sophie’s mom made her an Instagram account so the rest of the world can enjoy her adorable sleeping habits, too. People often question if Sophie’s mom is making her pose in the bed to take pictures …

… but Sophie really does sleep in her bed every single night, because she just wants to be close to her parents. When they get all tucked into bed and sleep through the night, that’s exactly what she wants to be doing, too.

But even though Sophie loves to be all cozy inside, she absolutely LOVES being outside, too.

“If I even say, ‘Sophie wanna go outside?’ she will come running and sit down to get her harness put on to go outside,” Viscusi said. “She could spend hours outside monitoring the yard. When I get home from work she’s waiting at the door and circling me to go outside. We have a routine where we go outside for at least an hour when I get home because I know she’s anxiously been waiting all day.”

When Viscusi first started taking Sophie outside a year after she was adopted, she noticed one of the neighbor’s cats starting to follow them. Everywhere they went, Scottie would be watching, and as the weeks wore on, he started following closer and closer until finally, every time Sophie went outside, Scottie was right by her side.

At first, Sophie’s mom didn’t think much of it — until she found out that Scottie was pulled from a hoarding situation and adopted around the same time that Sophie was.

“It’s very possible they were at the same place and each put in different shelters, but I really don’t know,” Viscusi said. “Just makes us wonder. Especially because Scottie’s owners said he hasn’t gotten along with any other cats and are shocked at how much he loves being around Sophie.”

It’s impossible to know for sure if Scottie and Sophie came from the same home, but either way, they absolutely adore each other and love spending as much time together as they possibly can.

“Every time we are outside when he is, he runs right over to hang out,” Viscusi said. “In the summer it’s several times a week. If he sees us on our balcony from his lawn he comes over and cries up at us then goes and sits at our backdoor waiting for us to bring her out. It’s really cute.”

Sophie may have come from rough beginnings, but her past has not affected her sweet personality or love of life in the least. She seems to be so grateful that she now has a bed to sleep in, a friend to play with and a family to love her for the rest of her days.
