This maine coon cat is so big many people think that it’s a dog at first

Cats come in all shapes and sizes: some small, some big, some skinny, others not so much. But, while there’s certainly plenty of variety in the cat world, you’ve likely never seen a feline quite like this one. Meet Kefir the cat, a white Maine Coon hailing from the town of Stary Oskol in Russia.

When this Melbourne-based couple adopted Maine Coon, it was nothing unusual with his size. The owner shared that they got Kefir from a cattery. They loved that the cat’s fur was so beautiful and white. That’s where the name, which means dairy drink, came from. Kefir immediately refused to eat dry cat food and started being fed only meat and natural feed.

In fact, he looked exactly like his siblings. While most cats’ growth tends to level off after a few years, at just two years old, Kefir simply hasn’t stopped growing. But today, he managed to break the Guinness World Record for the World’s Longest Cat.

Currently weighing in at 12.5 kilos – even Maine Coons, one of the largest cat breeds, tend to average out at somewhere between 6.8 and 11.3 kilos – Kefir is one hefty mammal. And since Maine Coons tend to stop growing by the age of 4, there’s a lot more growing to go.

Yuliya revealed that the only drawback to Kefir’s maintenance is the large amount of wool that the cat leaves around the house. However, it is treated like a true family member and always sits together with Yuliya and her family by the table when they’re dining.

Yuliya added that Kefir has developed a habit to jump on her at night when she sleeps. “He didn’t do that when he was smaller and it wouldn’t be that inconvenient, but now the cat became very big and heavy. It’s not that easy to sleep like that.” “It’s funny how others react when they see the cat because it is huge. Many people think that it’s a dog at first”

Questioned whether Kefir is really that big, Yulia adds: ‘I don’t use Photoshop.

The breed hails from the state of Maine in the US and is considered one of the oldest homegrown breeds in the country.

It was considered the largest breed of the domesticated cat until the Savannah cat in the 1980s. On average, males weigh up to 18lbs while females weigh up to 12lbs. Maine Coons also hold the record for the world’s longest cat, with Stewie from Nevada measuring 48.5 inches from his nose to his tail before his ᴅᴇᴀth in 2010.
