Hope For Paws received a call about an unusual rescue request of an injured opossum who had been thrown away in a trash can. So JoAnn Wiltz set out to help, and the opossum was alive but not moving. Something was clearly wrong, so she loaded the animal up in a crate and headed off to Pacific Wildlife Project.
All along they’d thought it was a male opossum, but when they got to the rescue, they noticed she had babies clinging on in her pouch! They immediately had the trash can searched for any that may have fallen out, but that was not the case.
The mother had an eye injury that would prevent her from ever being released, so she will spend the rest of her life in a sanctuary. As for her babies, they will be released into the wild once they are old enough to fend for themselves.
A different type of rescue for Hope For Paws, but yet another success and happy ending! 🙂
