An act of kindness goes a long way and will always be appreciated, even by animals. One night, Bob Hoelter decided to walk to his favorite store instead of driving. Bob Hoelter wonders if some ᴅɪᴠɪɴᴇ ɪɴᴛᴇʀᴠᴇɴᴛɪᴏɴ was at work one frigid winter night in Griffith, Iɴᴅɪᴀɴᴀ, last month — because if he hadn’t decided to walk 2 miles to his local store that evening, things may have turned out a lot differently. Hoelter said: “I usually drive. That night I decided I needed some exercise.”
As he was crossing a bridge to get to the store, he heard a ᴡᴇᴀᴋ and sᴀᴅ whimper that was coming from below. He said: “I was looking at the water and the land, but I don’t see anything, but I hear it. I walked back to land and I walked around and looked around.” The cries continued from the darkness beneath the bridge. Determined to help, Hoelter crawled on his hands and knees down the culvert, completely uncertain of what he was going to find. All he knew is that someone needed him. Hoelter said: “I get my flashlight out because I always carry a flashlight with me. I got to the bottom. I finally see him!”
When he finally saw him he was ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴏᴋᴇɴ to see a sᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ puppy with his ᴍᴏᴜᴛʜ ᴛᴀᴘᴇᴅ sʜᴜᴛ. The poor dog had been ᴛʜʀᴏᴡɴ ᴏꜰꜰ the bridge by his previous owners. Hoelter knew he had to act quickly. Griffith ᴀɴɪᴍᴀʟ ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ wasn’t far down the road, and he hoped they were still open. He said: “I just ᴛʜʀᴇᴡ him in my jacket, crawled back up and started hoofing it to the ᴀɴɪᴍᴀʟ ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ.” And the moment Hoelter burst through the ᴄʟɪɴɪᴄ’s door, holding the puppy, is something Griffith ᴀɴɪᴍᴀʟ ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ manager Lori Kovacich will never forget. Kovacich said: “I was out of my chair and in the lobby to get him in seconds.”
The hospital’s manager, Lori Kovavich, set the puppy’s ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛs as an immediate priority. The first thing they did was removing the tape around his muzzle, that had really ᴅᴀᴍᴀɢᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴇ sᴋɪɴ. They gave him ᴀɴᴛɪʙɪᴏᴛɪᴄ ᴏɪɴᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ and ɪɴᴊᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴs. They also discovered that the puppy had a ʙʀᴏᴋᴇɴ ʟᴇɢ which would require sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ. Once they finished the initial ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ, they made a cozy bed for the puppy. After the story of the puppy went viral a local family, The Wittings, instantly fell in love with the puppy and decided to adopt him, and named him Louie. At that point, the man who sᴀᴠᴇᴅ the puppy was still unknown, since he just brought him to the hospital and went away without saying his name, but one day Hoelter’s niece saw the ᴄʟɪɴɪᴄ’s Facebook post about Louie’s story and made their reunion possible.
When the puppy was finally reunited with his ʜᴇʀᴏ, he instantly recognized him and ran to show him all the love he could, this was his way to thank the man who sᴀᴠᴇᴅ his life. Louie just wouldn’t stop licking Hoelter’s face. Nobady thought Louie would recognize his ʜᴇʀᴏ, but dogs never fail to surprise us. Today Louie lives with the Wittings, his new family, but we are sure he will never stop being grateful to the man who sᴀᴠᴇᴅ his life.
