10 Things Your Cat Wishes You Knew

Our cats don’t speak English or any other human language, so they can’t always tell us exactly what they’re thinking and feeling. But if cat’s could speak, these are things they’d likely let us know.

#1 – I’m Good for Your Health

There have been a number of studies that show cats are beneficial to human health, from reducing allergies in children, lowering blood pressure, healing depression and decreasing the risk for stroke.

#2 – Don’t Punish Me for Things I Can’t Help

Sometimes cats will urinate outside the litter box and on your favorite couch or rug. This doesn’t usually mean they’re upset with you. More often, their litter box isn’t clean enough or they’re suffering a urinary tract infection. If your cat doesn’t have adequate access to a scratching post, he might use your furniture to stretch and file his nails.

#3 – We Don’t All Hate Water

Some cats love water and enjoy playing in the sink or bathtub. There’s no reason you should prevent your cat from doing this so long as it’s supervised.

#4 – I Need Stimulation

Cats get fat and bored easily. Having places to climb and explore and toys to play with will keep them occupied and at a healthy weight. Just because cats sleep a lot doesn’t mean they don’t want to do anything else.

#5 – I Need Your Attention

Cats are known for being independent animals, but they need love and attention to. Playing and cuddling with your cat will allow you to bond together and make your cat feel safe and loved.

#6 – You Are Mine for Life

Cats form strong bonds with their owners and may even chose one person in the house over another. If your cat rubs against you, it’s not just because he likes you, but because he’s leaving his scent to remind others that you belong to him.

#7 – I Enjoy Variety

Cats should be fed generally the same type of food to prevent gastrointestinal upset, but enjoy getting a variety of protein sources in their food. Maybe your cat does well on both chicken and beef – there’s no reason she can’t have both. Low calorie, meat-based treats are also a great way to spice up your cat’s meals.

#8 – I Feel Your Stress & Anxiety

Cats are very sensitive animals and they know when you’re upset. Whether you’re stressed because of something unrelated or you’re upset with your cat, she knows there’s something going on. If you notice her acting strangely or misbehaving, make sure she’s not just reacting to your stress.

#9 – I Am a Unique Individual

Cats are unique individuals just like humans. Remember that just because one cat loves to be rubbed on his belly doesn’t mean all cats love it. In the same light, some cats like more attention than others or prefer a certain type of bedding. Each cat is special and just because they don’t react the way you want them to doesn’t mean they don’t like you or are trying to upset you.

#10 – Purring Doesn’t Always Mean I’m Happy

While most people associate a cat’s purring with comfort and relaxation, it doesn’t always mean this. In fact, some cats will purr when in pain or feeling nervous. Make sure you’re paying attention to your cat’s other behaviors to ensure she’s happy and healthy.
