Hero Dog Wins National Award For Caring For Young Gun Shot Victim

Service dogs are so amazing and all of them deserve a special place in Heaven for helping their owners live better lives.  Their unwavering commitment and dedication is honorable but possibly not very surprising since dogs are so loyal and loving.

This highly trained seizure alert dog, a German shepherd named Alice, is one such dog and has been named American Humane’s 2019’s Hero Dog.  Alice was nominated for caring for Antonio Reese, a boy from Nicholasville, Kentucky, who was a victim of a violent crime.

“The American Humane Hero Dog Awards® are an annual, nationwide competition that searches out and recognizes America’s Hero Dogs – often ordinary dogs who do extraordinary things.”

On the day that changed his life, Antonio tragically suffered a gunshot wound to the face when a man fired shots into his family’s SUV.  As a result, he had to undergo many brain surgeries and now has a seizure disorder.  Alice helps him by alerting him to when he will have a seizure so that he can get somewhere safe.

Alice is honored for providing the coverage that can save Antonio’s life and his family is very grateful.  In the words of his mom, Tara Murillo:

“We want to start from the beginning and say a huge thank you to Guardian Angel’s Medical Service Dogs. Without them and their true caring love, for doing this, we wouldn’t even have Alice. And we wouldn’t be here, and Antonio’s life could have been a whole lot different. So thank you, and thank you to all supporters, and we love all of you.”

If you want to learn more about Antonio and Alice, their story will be featured on the Hallmark channel on October 23.  It will be a two-hour special honoring them and the other nominees.
