In May 2014, a video surfaced on the internet that instantly went viral of a boy from Bakersfield, CA being saved from a vicious dog attack. The hero that saved this poor boy was the family cat, who risked her own life to save this boy that she loved. Thankfully the little boy was okay, only requiring stitches and a brief hospital stay. If had not have been for Tara, the family tabby cat, things probably wouldn’t have been the same. And worse, the little boy was standing right in front of his mother in his own driveway, when this dog suddenly came out of nowhere ready to attack.
To honor this cat’s incredible heroic efforts, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Los Angeles recently honored sweet Tara with an award for saving her “brother’s” life from the chow-mix that could have easily killed him. They spcaLA gave Tara the 33rd annual Hero Dog Award–the first ever time a cat has won the award. And to make it her own, they were sure to put “cat” on the award for her!
Here is the shocking video below of Tara proving her undying loyalty, even chasing the dog back home after slamming her body against him. (Side note: it was reported that after being taken into custody the dog was later euthanized.)

What an incredible act of bravery by Tara! We are so thankful she was there to save the day and is being honored and praised for her heroic efforts!
