A Belgian Malinois found lying in a muddy field and unable to walk has made a heartwarming recovery thanks to his rescuers.
Henry and Sydney are full-time van lifers and animal rescuers. While staying in Baja California recently, the couple spotted the Belgian Malinois in a farmerโs field.
When Henry approached the dog he noticed the dogโs expression. โI remember those eyes looking up at me and being like โIโm helpless. I hope you are not here to hurt me. Please help me,โ he said in the video shared by the Dodo.
Henry said seeing the dog lying there, paralyzed and scared was the definition of meeting a dog on the worst day of his life.
Henry carried โDennisโ back to their van and they immediately drove the dog to the veterinarian who suspected the dog had been hit with a shovel.
Dennis needed several weeks of rest. Henry made it a point to visit Dennis throughout his recovery and slowly but surely Dennis could walk again.
Thatโs when a woman named Danielle stepped forward to foster Dennis. She was a bit overwhelmed at first, but soon she and Dennis began to work together to help him with his fear-based reactivity to strangers. But would Henry be considered a stranger a year later?
It turns out Dennis had not forgotten his saviour and the pair had a heartwarming reunion after Henry learned that Danielle had adopted Dennis!
Upon seeing Henry again, Dennis ran over to him like he was a long lost friend. Dennis leaned into Henry and the two played and had a great visit.
Itโs clear that Dennis recognized the man who was one of the first people to show him love. And Henry believes that Dennis will be even better with his social skills the next time they meet.
