Darlene is an animal lover, not an animal rescuer, but a chance conversation with her manicurist would prompt her to save Smokeyโs life.
Darlene was visiting the nail technician she liked a lot when the woman told her about her sonโs unwanted dog. The son was refusing to provide food or water to the dog.
Darlene assumed the technician was feeding the dog, when, in fact, Smokey was slowly starving to death. The manicurist finally confessed that she wanted to โput the dog downโ but didnโt want to pay the $200 fee to do so.
Darlene requested a photo of the Smokey and when she saw his photo she knew she needed to head over to the womanโs home right away and get the dog.
What follows is the story of how Darleneโs heroic actions saved Smokeyโs life and gave him a second chance at happiness.
