Police Officer Adopts Dog She Rescued From Hot Car

A New York City Police officer with the 19th Precinct has adopted the same dog she rescued from a hot car a month ago, in a sweet act of kindness.

Concerned citizens called 911 after seeing the dog locked in a car with the windows closed as temperatures hovered around 80 degrees.

The NYPD disallows animals in cars in such conditions as it can end in a tragedy. Officer Maharaj was among the officers who responded to the call and freed the dog by breaking the car window.

The officers and concerned citizens fed the dog water and made sure it was okay before taking it to veterinary care.

The 19 Precinct posted on its Twitter: “A month ago, this sweet doggo was rescued after his owner left him in his hot locked car for hours; yesterday, one of its rescuers, Officer Maharaj, adopted him,” it wrote.

The police have charged a 26-year-old man with animal cruelty. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals took the dog in before Maharaj adopted it. “This pup will never be neglected again!” the 19th Precinct said in its post.

The NYPD said it takes 10 minutes for a car to reach 102 degrees on an 85-degree day. We thank God for the quick response of the NYPD to this situation and for Officer Maharaj to open her heart and home for this furry angel.
