Welcoming home a rescue dog is one of the most selfless and meaningful things we can do. It gives a pet a second chance at life while expanding the family in a special way.
But when Mark and Sean set out to adopt a dog, they decided to take things one step further and adopt a dog with special needs. Specifically, they wanted a deaf rescue dog!
Mark had owned three deaf dogs before and he was wanting to take on a new deaf pet, but this time, he wanted to share the experience with his partner, Sean. So, they started reaching out to rescues to see what pets were in need of a new home.
When they heard back from the Family Dog SF in 2018, they were told that the rescue had two deaf dogs. They set out from Portland, OR to meet the dogs.
In an interview with GeoBeats Animals, Mark explained that the shelter told them they had two deaf dogs available and one of them, Blu, rarely got any visitors. Blue was one of the shelter’s longest residents and no one seemed interested in adopting her.
Naturally, Mark and Sean were extra interested in Blu after learning that she’d been there so long with so little interest. After meeting her, they were immediately sold! “She was just so vibrant and full of life,” Mark recalled.
Blu was abandoned by her family when they moved into an apartment building that didn’t allow pit bulls. The poor dog was so uncertain and afraid of being abandoned again, but it didn’t take too long before she realized her new family wouldn’t leave her.
It’s been over 4 years since Blu went home with Mark and Sean and she’s now living her absolute best life! She doesn’t let her lack of hearing slow her down in life at all.
